It is also just as important to look after our wildlife. Try putting out some feed, this will help encourage wildlife to your garden. That way you will ensure your garden will bloom come the summer months. Not everyone has the time or knowledge to maintain their garden and property. PLANTS & LAWN CARE

Plants are the focal point of your garden. If they are maintained properly they can flourish all year round. Each plant needs specific care. Flowering and fruit plants return year after year so it’s a good idea to prune them in the late winter months to early spring. Perennials need deadheading regularly. If you are growing plants from seed you need to ensure they are watered well in the dryer months. If the winter months are cold & we get a lot of rain, ice, & snow then your lawns could get waterlogged & may need special attention. Raise pots of the ground or put them under some kind of cover. You may want to wrap them using bubble wrap to protect against the frost.

TREE SURGERY

Keeping the shape of your tree’s can be difficult, pruning & dead wooding is a must but can also be time consuming. If a chainsaw is needed then it can be very dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing so hiring a tree surgeon is a good idea. They will be able to give you advice, diagnose diseases and prune your tree to make it look healthy.

FENCES

There are many different kinds of fences made from wood metal upvc & all of them need maintaining on a regular basis, especially fences made from wood because they are more susceptible to the elements of nature which can cause damage. After the winter, ensure you check or get them checked. They may need repairing or need to be replaced. The more resilient type fences will still need to be checked for rust and wind damage.

OUTBUILDINGS SHEDS
     HUTCHES & HUTS

All types of sheds, outbuildings, huts, & hutches are attacked by the weather. No matter the material they all need maintaining. Make sure they are all secure & protected from unwanted thieves. If you have a wooden shed/outbuilding then you need to ensure it is weatherproof. Check the roof, the felt could have been damaged by the rain or high winds. Older sheds intend to rot if left unattended. Check animal hutches and make sure they are protected especially in the winter months.

GARDEN FURNITURE

You should consider putting away all your garden furniture for the winter months. Garden furniture can deteriorate quickly if left out in the rain, snow & ice. You should try to protect it with some kind of weather & waterproof cover if you don’t have any outbuildings. Make sure it’s maintained on a regular basis & it will last for a very long time. Bring it back out in the spring & give it a clean.

DRIVEWAYS DECKING
    PATIOS & PAVING

Decking needs to be cleaned up to four times a year depending on the weather & use. You can do this by using a mild detergent or you could use a pressure washer if you have one. A pressure wash will give you a better result. You will also need to paint it up to a couple times of year, not only to protect it but to make it look new again. Patio & paving can be cleaned the same way. You may need to de-weed your patio, paving or driveway before cleaning. You can also spray it with a protective cover and re-grout if need be.
